On July 8, the Government Office issued document No. 6004/VPCP-NN conveying the directive of Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh regarding the handling of the fish kill situation on the La Nga River, Dong Nai province.

Accordingly, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh commented on the proposal from the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee in official letter 6897/UBND-CNN dated June 18, regarding the report on handling the fish kill situation on the La Nga River. Specifically: To prevent similar incidents to the fish kill that occurred on the La Nga River last May, and to protect the legitimate interests of aquaculture farmers in the area, the Deputy Prime Minister requested the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee to continue directing the enhancement of the effectiveness and efficiency of environmental protection law enforcement by the province's functional agencies. Concurrently, strengthen inspection and supervision of environmental protection law compliance by residents and businesses in the area, including discharge activities into the La Nga River and other water sources within the province.
Previously, according to statistics from the fish kill in May, La Nga commune, Dinh Quan district, had 40 households with 165 cages (raising Hemibagrus fish) and 17 fish rafts affected, with a total loss of nearly 428 tons of fish; Phu Ngoc commune had 41 households with 143 cages and 9 fish rafts affected, with approximately 548.5 tons of fish. The dead fish were mainly carp, Hemibagrus, tilapia, silver carp, etc.; most of them were large fish nearing harvest, thus increasing the extent of the damage. Given this situation, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh requested the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee to direct functional agencies to determine the cause of this phenomenon and implement thorough remedial measures. If the cause of the fish kill is found to be due to illegal acts, strict penalties shall be applied in accordance with the law. At the same time, the Provincial People's Committee directed specialized agencies and local authorities to review compliance with environmental protection regulations by major discharge sources into the La Nga River, especially in cases where there are public complaints.
